Springwood and Horton Park share spoils in cup thriller!
The partnership Year 6 ('A') football competitionended in drama with 2007 finalists Springwood primary meeting outright league winners (5 straight wins) Horton Park in a tense final at Thornton astroturf. Springwood won their final league game against previous two years winners Clayton CE, to set-up a final show down. After a tense first half, there was pressure at both ends of the pitch, but neither team could break the deadlock, with the score still at 0-0 after full-time. With extra-time still yielding no goals, golden goal or penalties was looming when a decision was made to share the trophy.
Well done to all the teams who took part - we wish both finalists best wishes for the district finals in March.
Horton Park girls keep up the winning streak!
Horton Park year 6 team edged the girls football competition, winning each of their games at Thornton astroturf. The tournament which took place over two weeks was memorable for the enrhusiasm and commitment shown by all of the girls that took part. Well done to each of the teams, that also included Lidget Green PS, Southmere and Heaton PS's. We wish the girls from Horton Park well in the district finals in March.
All still to play for in year 10 football league!
Thornton GS (17 pts) and Salts (16 pts) have edged ahead of previous leaders Grange Technology College ( 15 pts) in the year 10 central venue football league, after both teams had a successful evening on Thursday (9/10/08) at Thornton astro. The leaders going into week 3 went down 2-0 to Salts on the night to ensure the final 2 weeks should make this year's tournament as close as last year. 'We're just trying to concentrate on our own game at the moment and let the results look after themselves' said Mr Steven Paynter, manager of the Thornton GS. Last year's winners, Queensbury , have struggled so far to find the consistency of last year. Watch this space!..........
Congratulations to Grange year 10's who ensured that they remained at the top of the table, with two 3-1 wins. The team finished unbeaten overb the 10 fixtures with a goal difference of +14.
